Wildlife Center.
During my summer of my 8th grade year I got to visit and give my help to the Wildlife Center in silt. I spent 16 hours getting to learn about all of the different animals that they take care of there and also help out with some of the things that they do everyday. I got to feed deer, birds, wolves, foxes, bears, mountain lions, and much more. Also I cleaned out some of their cages, which was kind of gross. I spent time with the animals and learned about how they live and the differences between them. This taught me so much about how animals are taken care of in captivity, how much work it actually takes, and why it is important that they have us to take care of them because some of them wouldn't be abe to survive on their own.The most memerable thing while I spent my time there was when we got to release a baby bear cub that they had in captivity for a couple of months back into the wild. This was such a great experience for me because I felt like even if I didn't do a lot I still helped that bear when it might not have made it. In the end I think I might be more open to trying new experiences like this one because I really enjoyed my time, I got to give back, and I learned a lot.
Service Learning.
For my service learnning class I chose to look at the career of being an Ultrasound Technitian. Through service learninhg you get a more realistic and hands on experience of what the job actually is like. I also got to look at the education path I'll be needing to take and the requirements that I will need to meet.
Some of the reasons that I chose this as the career I want to pursue is that it provides you with a great income, there is a short amount of schooling compared to other medical jobs, there is a high demand for this job, and finally I would enjoy this as a job. The average income for an ultrasound tech is $62,000 a year. When you first start the job with less experience you don't get paid as much, but as your experience grows you will make more and more money. You can make up tp 80,000 a year being an ultrasound tech. The schooling required is two years of medical school and two years of college (asscociate degree.) Also to have this job you will need to have training and real life experience. The more you have knowlege of being an Ultrasound Tech and the more experience you have is for the better. You will be more successful. You will be able to find higher compensation in certain states. Sometimes working overtime is required when working in this field however you will be getting paid for your time working. I really am interested in this job because it is a way to help people. Also I find the medical field to be very exciting. This is the perfect job for me to be happy and love what I do.
Service learning to me is the best way to learn. Not only do you get to learn a lot, but you get real life, hands on experience. This type of learning captures your attention and keeps you interested. Completing service learning hours can benefit you for your job. If employers see that you have learned and had training about the job prior to applying for it, then it is more likely that you will get the job over someone else who has not had this experience. You can create connections and make relationships with people who also might have the same interests. It might be more beneficial for you to learn doing more hands on work and being able to watch someone teach you what you need to do by showing you how to do it.
Schooling for this job and other jobs as well can be quite expensive. It can be tough to find the right school to attend. Based on what you can afford and your education level limits your choice and chance of going to a well known, high standard school. If you graduate from a college that has a good reputation you can recieve a higher paying job, but its not always just the school you go to thats important. The amount of experience is just as important. You have to do a lot of research before choosing a school. Some places may try to trick you into attending when their school may not be right for you. Either way college will help you further your career no matter what school you decide on.
All in all an Ultrasound Tech is the career I am looking to purse for many reasons and I will have to complete service learning and attend college to help me get there
